Lake Perry Newsletter Fall 2008

2009 Assessment

The 2009 assessment will be billed in November. The Board of Trustees has set the 2009 rate at $525. Unfortunately, expenses at the lake are rising and the increase is unavoidable.

Paving

The Board of Trustees has been soliciting bids for the next phase of paving. Phase 2 will consist of Port Perry Drive beginning at the West Gate and looping around Lake Point Drive. Phase 2 of the project, while only .4 of a mile longer than the paving in Phase 1, will cost almost twice as much due to the increase in the price of asphalt. The loan for Phase 1 will be paid off shortly.

Chili Cook-off

The annual Chili Cook-off will be held at the restaurant on October 4th. Judging will begin at 6 p.m. and the cost of a bowl of chili will be $1.00. In addition to eating chili, the evening will feature a quilt raffle, dessert auction, door prizes, music and general fun for all ages. Plan to put together your favorite chili or pie/cake recipe and join the fun. All proceeds will go toward the playground equipment fund. Please bring your own beverages.

New Policy on Dropping Lake

Previously, the board had adopted a policy which allowed the lake to be dropped in odd numbered years. After consulting with Missouri Conservation about our lake weed problem, we have been advised that the only way to decrease the volume of weeds is to drop the lake level every year. Hereafter, the lake will be dropped each year beginning November 1st. The spillway will be closed to allow adequate filling of the lake for the spring during the first week in January. Lot owners who wish to work on docks or seawalls do not have to wait until next fall and can apply for permits for work the remainder of this year.

Rentals not allowed

Lake Perry is a lot owner user community. A careful reading of the restrictions reveals that only lot owners, their immediate families and their guests are entitled to use any of the common grounds which include the lake, pool, all roads, picnic areas, etc. Moreover, no business activity is allowed except those planned as part of the overall development such as the restaurant. It has come to the attention of the Board of Trustees that not all lot owners understand that they can not rent their house or lot to other persons.

Guest Policy

Persons who have owned property at Lake Perry for many years will recall that there used to be a written policy that referenced guests. Somehow, that policy disappeared from the policy manual. The Board of Trustees has readopted a guest policy that reads as follows:

Lot owners are responsible for the behavior and actions of their guests at all times. Guests must be accompanied by a lot owner or member of the lot owner's immediate family when using any of the lake amenities (pool, lake, etc.).

This and That

Thanks to the lot owners who provided the fireworks displays this past July 4th. Lot owners appreciated not only the displays but also the timing which allowed for a long show all around the lake.

With the roads that are presently paved and those that will be paved soon, the community has had a definite increase in walkers, bikers, golf carts and UTV's on the roads. Please be extra careful to follow the speed limits and watch for others on the road.

Shortly, a new dump station for camper waste will be installed near the West Gate bathhouse.

Kudos to the recyclers! In the near future, we will be able to cut down on the number of dumpsters at the main gate due to a drastic decrease in trash. Over the summer the community has filled the recycling trailer twice. Great work. (Thanks to Shirley Pelker for all her work).
