Annual Chili Cook-off
The annual chili cook-off is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3rd. Chili should be delivered by 5:30pm, judging will be at 6:00 with serving at 6:30. This year, chili from last year's winners will be held back so that anyone going on a hayride will have chili when they return. Chili will be $1 for a refillable bowl. In addition, a refillable 12oz beer cup will be available for $5.00. Soft drinks will be available for sale, but wine drinkers will need to BYOB. Once again, Barb Zieba is providing a quilt to be raffled off, with tickets available at the cook-off. Syl Bierman has again volunteered to serve as the auctioneer for the cake auction. Please bring your great goodies so we can make Syl work. Live music will be available from 6:30 until 10:00 pm. All proceeds will go toward buying additional playground equipment. The goal is to buy a piece for the West Gate area this year and then accrue the funds to add equipment to Tanglewood. If anyone has new items they would like to donate for door prizes, please call Lo Simms or Barb Zieba or drop them off at their houses.
Pavement Bond
Since the paving began, contractors have been required to bore under the road when it is necessary to cross the road to connect utilities. The board understands that because of the rock on the property boring is not always feasible. However, there is a responsibility to protect the integrity of our paved roads. Therefore, when a lot owner is building and or adding utilities to a lot along a paved road and the contractor needs to cut into the road, the lot owner will need to pay a $2500 pavement bond which will be refunded when the contractor restores the road to its original condition. If the road is not restored, the bond funds will be used by the association to repair the road.
Address Requirement
To assist 911 responders and delivery persons, the Board of Trustees has adopted a new policy, effective August 1, 2009 for the issuance of building permits. The items following provide more information on this important initiative. A full copy of the policy is available on the website under Lake Perry Guidelines. The policy reads in part: All building permits issued after August 1, 2009 will require an address sign to be erected on the lot of the permit applicant, indicating the plat and lot number. The lot owner's name and/or street name may also be included.
Emergency Response
The board is currently in the process of supplying the Perry County E 9-1-1, (a division of the Perry County Health Department), a detailed map showing the plats and lot numbers of all the properties in the Lake Perry development. Perry County E 9-1-1 publishes a mapping booklet showing all the streets, roads and highways in Perry County, which they distribute to all emergency response units in the county. By supplying the Lake Perry map, every emergency response team will be able to locate any property in the development quickly and easily. It is important that all lot owners install an address sign for the benefit of all.
Address Signs
Address signs are required on all properties. Signs should be made of durable material. Numbers and letters should be at least 3" high and the sign placed as near to the road as practical. All lots are identified by four digits: the first is the plat number, and the other three represent the lot number. Zeros are used in front of lot numbers which have fewer than three digits. For example, the address for plat 2 lot 3 is 2003. With the street address, that address is 2003 Port Perry Drive.
Office Use
The office at the main gate is available to lot owners if they are hosting an event and need heated and cooled indoor space. There is a $150 refundable cleaning deposit required. If the space is left in its original condition the deposit is returned to the lot owner. Please contact Rich DeWilde's office if you are interested in using the office for an event.
New Board Members
Two of the elected board members have chosen not to serve out their terms. The by-laws provide for board appointment in these cases with the appointee to serve the remainder of the term. Mark DeLine has been appointed to replace Winnie McConachie. The board hopes to have an individual in place to replace Bill Logan by the September or October board meeting.
Camping in Plats One and Two
The board has faced some unusual challenges this summer related to violations of camping permits in plats one and two. The restrictions allow temporary camping in these areas under conditions set by the Board of Trustees at their sole discretion. The current policy follows that set by the prior administrations in that lot owners can receive a three day permit (four for holidays) and once a year can apply for a 10 day permit. While most lot owners comply with the permit process, a hand-full of individuals have chosen to violate the restrictions. For next summer, the board is developing a permit process which will not be burdensome to those who follow the rules but that will insure that all lot owners comply with the policies or face prosecution in civil court.
Illegal Activity
Each summer the Lake Perry community faces instances of illegal behavior ranging from underage drinking to public nudity. When security is on duty, lot owners are asked to call them immediately. If no security is present, please call the Perry County Sheriff. The sheriff's department has keys to the property and is willing to respond. Lot owners should also be diligent about not letting following vehicles through the gates unless you know the persons behind you. Those with a remote control can simply stop inside the gate and close it. If using a key card, please just wait until the gate closes before moving out of the way.
RECYCLING NOTES FROM SHIRLEY PELKER
"Close the door, were you born in a barn!" If that sounds familiar, your parents taught you about energy conservation, and very likely you said or say something similar to your children. Thus a habit is formed. I'm asking you to create a habit like that about recycling. If there isn't a separate receptacle for recyclable items in your house or trailer or RV or camp site, I encourage you to establish one. Recently I read that about 80% of household trash is recyclable. Let's get rid of one more dumpster.
Please save us some time
by paying attention to these few details because when you put items in the Perry
County Recycling trailer that don't belong there, the recycling volunteers have
to remove them:
" Aluminum cans go in the aluminum collection bin outside the trailer,
not in the "steel can" box.
" Remove all items from your collection bags and throw the bags away or
recycling them elsewhere. Perry County cannot recycle plastic or paper bags
at this time.
" Check the recycle symbol on the bottom of plastics. We can only take
#1 clear (light comes through it), #2 natural and #2 colored. We've had to remove
a lot of #1 black, #5 and #7.
" Empty bottles and throw the lids away. Lids are almost always a different
type of plastic.
" Flatten cardboard and pasteboard and keep them separate from each other.
Community Awareness Program
Winnie McConachie wants to initiate a Community Awareness Program designed to encourage positive action and participation in projects such as Neighborhood Watch, recycling, landscaping, litter pick-up, etc. Her hope is that each lot owner will take pride in the progress Lake Perry has made in the last few years and will strive to maintain the clean comfortable environment we all enjoy. Taking time to pick up litter would be a good start. If anyone is interested in purchasing items with the Lake Perry logo, K&L Sports on the square in Perryville has two different designs to choose from.
This and That
Minutes of Board of Trustee meetings are available at lakeperry.com. If a lot owner does not have computer access, a hard copy may be requested from the association office. If you wish to be placed on the e-mail list to receive your newsletter, please go to the website and follow the link. The e-mail list is also used to notify lot owners of storm damage or other issues.
The association has several lots for sale. Presently available are 1029, 2111, 2149, 5134, 5050, and 6022. All have been appraised. Contact the association office if interested in any of these lots.
Lot owners are still clearing damage from the May storm. The board would like to encourage lot owners to complete the clean-up by the end of 2009.
Special thanks from the board to those lot owners who have maintained the flower beds this summer, helped alert the board to security issues through Neighborhood Watch and planned the October Chili Cook-off. Extra kudos are sent to Ken Simms who prior to and during his tenure on the board was responsible for issuing and insuring compliance with building permits.
