Lake Perry Newsletter Summer 2008

Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the Lot Owners Association was held at the American Legion Hall in Perryville on April 27th. Rich DeWilde reported on the activities over the past year. On the financial side, Rich reported that the note for the asphalt paving was down to $17,500. In anticipation of paying off the note in 2008, Rich reported that we should be able to look at paving the main road through plats 4-7 in 2009. Because of all of the construction in those plats over the next few years and the need to cut through the road each time that utilities are connected, Rich asked lot owners in plats 4-7 to consider paving the road with chip and seal as an interim measure. The cost of doing so and keeping up with repairs would be considerably less expensive than asphalt. Given the price of oil, options and costs will be determined later this year. Board elections were held. Bill Logan and Sheila Caskey were elected to three-year terms.

Pool Issues

As many of you know, the pool was not open for the Memorial Day weekend. To stop the cracks and leaks in the deep end of the pool, the board was advised to fill in the deep end to a depth of six feet. Due to the weather and construction delays the job was not completed in time to open in May. Lot owners are asked to please make sure your children understand that they cannot dive head first into the pool. Also, this year, swim diapers are required for all children who are not potty trained. If you forget, a small quantity of diapers will be for sale in the restaurant.

Restaurant

The restaurant is being managed again by Kandi Mauharin. The schedule is basically the same as last year. Closed on Monday, open midday Tues-Thursday, and open until 9pm on Fridays featuring catfish buffet. On Saturday, based on lot owner requests, Kandi will open at 9am and offer ala carte breakfast. On Sunday, breakfast buffet is offered from 9-11am. Check restaurant and/or bulletin board for Saturday night specials.

Fishing Tournaments

Two fishing tournaments were held this spring. The April tournament was won by Ben Hemmann with a total catch of 14lb and 5oz. In May, the tournament was won by Greg Ragsdale with a total catch of 17lb, 4 oz.

Security

For this summer, the board has decided to hire individuals on weekends to let guests in at both the main and west gates and reserve actual security for the late evening when there tend to be more instances of inappropriate behavior. Roaming security is on duty from 8pm to 3am. If a lot owner is concerned about any illegal behavior, for example, vandalism, underage drinking, theft, etc. please call the sheriff's department. Even though Lake Perry is a private gated community, the board has met with the sheriff and been reassured that illegal activities within the community will be handled by the sheriff's deputies.

Recycling

Later in this newsletter is information related to the Lake Perry recycling effort. In addition to protecting the environment, it is hoped that recycling will allow the board to decrease the cost of our trash service which is approximately $1000 per month. Being able to cut back on the number of dumpsters will mean a real savings. In addition to the information provided on the next page, for the summer there are two small dumpsters next to the recycling bin which are for dark and clear glass. "Clear" glass is defined as anything other than brown. No glass panes or Corelle glassware is allowed.

Reminders

A few reminders about Lake Perry restrictions and policies follow:

No wake zones are marked by buoys. "No wake" means idle speed only.

Boating "rules of the road" dictate that you keep the shoreline on the right as you move around the lake.

The deed restrictions which we all accepted when we bought property at Lake Perry, require that all pets be on a leash, caged, or within a vehicle when outside the owner's property.

With respect to amplified sound, the restriction reads, "No radio, television, stereo or other broadcast units of any type and no amplifiers or loud speakers of any kind may be placed, allowed or maintained outside or directed outside …..between the hours of 10 pm and 10 am. All television and radio transmissions must be kept at a volume so as to not interfere with the enjoyment of surrounding property owners".

Motorized vehicles of any kind operated on Lake Perry roadways must be driven by licensed drivers.

Camping in plats one and two is restricted and by permit. Camping permits can be obtained at Rich DeWilde's office, 1300 Brenda, Perryville, Mo.

No construction of any kind (house, shed, garage, carport, boat dock, culvert, etc.) can begin until a building permit has been issued. See Rich DeWilde or Ken Sims for information on building.
