Board Elections
At the annual meeting of the lot owners association, three persons were elected to serve three-year terms on the Board of Trustees. They were, Richard DeWilde, Bob Pelker, and Winnie McConachie. At its first meeting on May 14th, the Board of Trustees elected its officers for the year. These are Rich DeWilde, President; Sheila Caskey, Vice-President; and Carol Breig, Secretary/Treasurer.
Camping Permits
By unanimous action of the board, the previously proposed policy change to allow seasonal camping permits in Plats One and Two was rescinded. Lot owners in these two plats who wish to camp on their lots need to apply for a weekend permit or the one time 10-day extended stay permit. Permits can be obtained at the association office in Perryville (Rich DeWilde's office) Monday-Friday noon, or from security at the lake on weekends. Permits can also be faxed or e-mailed to members during the week.
Brush Clean-up
The storm that hit Lake Perry on May 8th left lot owners with a tremendous amount of brush and other storm debris. To assist lot owners, brush only may be brought to the former children's fishing area between plats one and three and the Lake Perry staff will dispose of it. Please take the brush to the back part of that area so the front can continue to be used for boat trailer parking. If you intend to burn the brush on your lot, please have a water source, do not leave a live fire unattended and be prepared to comply with any no burn orders as the ground begins to dry out through the summer. As usual, brush cannot be placed in the dumpsters.
Security
For summer 2009,
the board has contracted for security services including weekend gate duty,
weekend patrols and water patrol. Lot owners have expressed particular concern
about boats on the lake without a visible decal. If you have a decal, it must
be affixed to the rear left side of the boat above the waterline. Boats will
not be allowed through the gates unless they have a decal. Any boat found on
the water without a decal will be escorted out. The water patrol will also be
monitoring unsafe boating behavior. Again, persons who cannot comply with the
general rules of the road and safety considerations on the lake will be escorted
off the lake. If a lot owner needs to contact security, please call the following
numbers in the order given: 547-9000 (Lake Perry main gate)/576-6830 (Lou Garris)/768-1200
(Laddie Garris).
Decals, Key Cards, Permits
For lot owners with
paid-up assessments, and for boats with proof of insurance and ownership on
file with the association, boat and car decals, keycards, and camping permits
can be picked up at Rich's office from Monday-Friday at noon. On Friday evening,
Saturday afternoon and evening, pick up will be at the main gate from the security
personnel. If you wish to pick up key cards and decals at the gate, the office
must know at least 24 hours in advance to facilitate delivery of these items
to the security staff.
Restaurant
Many lot owners are aware that it has been very challenging to find anyone willing to take over our restaurant this year. Damien Holtman who cooked for Candy last summer has agreed to take charge. We have asked Damien to provide basic concession stand type food. i.e. hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken strips, chef or chicken salad, nachos, etc. There will be no Friday evening or Sunday morning buffet. Facility hours will be posted on the bulletin board at the main gate and at the restaurant.

This and That
The pools will be open by Memorial Day weekend. Toddlers who are not yet potty trained must wear swim diapers. Drinks, other than water, are prohibited on the pool deck. On weekends, lot owners are asked to limit the number of guests using the pool to allow other lot owners and their families to enjoy the use of the facility.
The minutes of Board of Trustees meetings will be posted to the website after they are approved by the board.
Lot owners who wish to receive the newsletter by e-mail should contact Carol Breig or go to the website at Lakeperry.com to sign up. If you would like e-mail notification of situations such as the storm that hit the lake on May 8th, also please let Carol know.
The two picnic tables nearest the front door of the restaurant are reserved for restaurant use. Lot owners who bring their own food are welcome to use the other tables, the pavilion or the newly refurbished picnic area near the pool and marina.
The lot owners association has several lots for sale. These are 1029, 2111, 2149, 4092, 4093, 5130, 5050, 5134, and 6022. If interested, contact Rich DeWilde.
The annual Chili Cook-off will be sometime in October. Proceeds from this annual event, paired with funds donated several years ago by lot owners in Plats One and Two, will be used to purchase a new piece of playground equipment for the West Gate pavilion area. Hopefully, at the conclusion of this year's event, adequate funds will have been raised. If anyone has items they would like to donate as door prizes, please contact either Barb Zieba, 547-3690 or Lo Simms, 547-8727,
Recycling (from Shirley Pelker)
Thank you for a very successful first year of recycling! We diverted about 9.5 tons of material from our trash dumpsters (and subsequently from the landfill), which saved Lake Perry some money. Nine and a half tons is a considerable amount of recyclables, but tons more still go into our dumpsters each year. In your households, your camp sites and your use of common areas, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE A LARGE GATHERING OF PEOPLE, please make every effort to recycle all of the following: cardboard, paste board, aluminum, glass, batteries, garden-nursery pots, cooking oil, #1 clear plastic, #2 natural plastic, #2 colored plastic, steel cans, magazines and junk mail, newspaper and phone books, motor oil, transmission fluid.
Electronics
and Appliance Recycling Fair
Do you wonder what to do with old appliances and electronics since their bulk
and hazardous chemicals are not good for the landfills? Well, Perry County Recycling
is now offering an annual event on the first Saturday of June at Rozier's Food
Centre from 9:00 to 5:00 to recycle these items. The recycler, Midwest Recycling
Center, basically takes anything that plugs in or runs on batteries, including
the wires, cables and accessories that go with them. All of it is recyclable
and is, therefore, diverted from landfills. ANY appliance can be dropped off
free of charge, and freon does NOT have to be removed. The recycler is certified
to deal with that so just bring any appliance as is. Electronics are also accepted
free of charge, except TV's and monitors. A fee of $15 for TV's and $10 for
monitors covers the cost of extracting the cathode ray tubes from them and sending
the tubes to Doe Run, which is the only facility in Missouri certified to remove
hazardous chemicals from them before recycling. At this first annual event on
June 6, the first 40 households to bring TV's or monitors will receive $5 off
per household thanks to the generosity of local businesses.
Know Your
Trash
Our trash hauler cannot accept items that are prohibited in landfills; therefore,
tires, batteries and hazardous chemicals may not be thrown in our dumpsters.
The hauler is also limited by the truck size so, when depositing large items,
consider the truck, not the dumpster. A 12' roll of carpet, for example, needs
to be cut into 4' strips. Construction waste is prohibited, as well as furniture
and appliances. Furniture, appliances and other household items in good condition
can be donated to the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store in Perryville (573-547-3975).
